Mr Dotun Ojon, the Ondo Gubernatorial Candidate, Young Progressive Party (YYP), has said the people of Ondo State should get ready to pay more taxes if Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is re-elected.

Ojon said in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Akure that paying more taxes would further impoverish the people.

“As we speak now salaries are still being owed while pensioners are not allowed to enjoy the fruit of their long labour.

“It is curious to note that government at this time is talking about giving palliatives to political parties while its core objective is being neglected.

“With what was displayed on Saturday, we know the plan of the government is nothing short of taxation – no wonder the only project inaugurated is a tax house.

“Ondo State people must be wise enough to give a red card to a government whose agenda is to make life unpleasant through different types of collection,” he said.

The governorship candidate further alleged that in spite of the available funds to the state, the government was deliberately keeping the people in poverty so as to take advantage of the situation.

According to Ojon, the APC candidate’s agenda was further displayed at the launch of its candidate’s campaign in Ondo State as virtually all discussions centred around how to get people to pay more taxes and make more money for the government.

“It seems the Akeredolu’s Government has an ‘MMM’ mindset – and the only thing that matters to it is to get more money.

“For the avoidance of doubt, if the people of Ondo State ever consider giving Akeredolu an opportunity to run the state’s affairs for a second term, they should be ready to pay taxes for everything in the state,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC), National Leader, Mr Bola Tinubu, was in Akure on Saturday to inaugurate the Ondo State Internal Revenue building.
