State Governors elected under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently in a closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau.

Although the reason for the meeting could not be ascertained immediately, it was gathered the meeting may not be unconnected with the recent leadership crisis and zoning controversy rocking the party. It is instructive to note that the main opposition PDP is expected to hold its 102nd National Executive Committee meeting on Monday.

Incidentally, the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket is one of the major decisions that is expected to be taken at the meeting.

Sources close to the matter also disclosed that three options are before the party: zoning the presidential ticket to the South, throwing it open or zoning it to the North.

But major stakeholders are in favour of zoning it to the South on the grounds that the South still has four years left out of the eight years tenure in line with the rotational presidency between the North and the South.
