*Confirms Damagum as substantive National Chairman

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a pragmatic step and formally resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

The decision was made public on Monday in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, shortly after the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the meeting.

According to Ologunagba, the resolution followed the adoption of a report submitted by the Zoning Committee led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.

Ologunagba further explained that the PDP NEC also upheld the existing zoning structure for the National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the party’s elective convention slated for November.

He said, “The PDP NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions. Since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”

The PDP NEC further expressed satisfaction with ongoing preparations for the upcoming convention.

Meanwhile, the PDP NEC has confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as the party’s Substantive National Chairman.

The PDP took this decision at its ongoing 102nd NEC meeting in Abuja.

The NEC meeting was briefly halted to enable Damagum to be sworn into office. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the PDP National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.

In his acceptance speech, Damagum thanked other members of the PDP NEC for making his work easier. He also thanked members of NEC for appreciating his efforts in repositioning the party, resulting in his confirmation.
