The Sokoto State Police Command has disclosed that it has arrested about 575 suspected criminals in 2024.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Command, ASP Ahmad Rufai, quoted the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Commnad, Ahmad Musa, as saying this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to him, the Command also recorded massive recovery of weapons ranging from, ‘1 General Purpose Machine Gun GPMG with 6 rounds of live ammunitions, 9 AK47 rifles, 3 Magazines and 341 rounds of live ammunitions, 4 Locally made AK47 rifles and two live ammunitions, 1 Locally made Pistol, 1 Dane Gun, 3 Motor vehicles and Tanker truck.
Other achievements include the recovery of, “97 rustled cows, 29 sheep,1 Donkey and rescued 27 kidnapped victims””.
Giving categories of the offences for which the suspects were being arrested for, Rufai mentioned them to include, Culpable Homicide, Rape, Vandalism, Drug Abuse, Motorcycle snatching, activities of Fraudsters, Animal Rustling and Armed Robbery.
The police spokesman added that CP Musa is committed to the safety and security of citizens, saying that the CP upholds the values of justice, fairness, and accountability.
CP Musa also stated that he remained committed to ensuring that the state remain safe,
at all times, saying that the command is implementing innovative strategies to tackle emerging security challenges, fostered stronger community partnerships, and enhance the welfare and training programmes for their officers and men.
