The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, by suspected armed bandits.

Security operatives have since launched a major search and rescue operation to secure his release.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred on Friday, October 31, 2025, at about 8:20 p.m.

CSP Abubakar said a group of armed men invaded Bagudo town in Bagudo Local Government Area and abducted the lawmaker shortly after he had observed Isha’i prayers and was returning home.

CSP Abubakar stated that a joint team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has been deployed to the area.

“The combined forces are currently combing suspected bandits’ routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” the statement read.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kebbi State, describing the abduction as “a dastardly act that will not go unpunished.”

CSP Abubakar further appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to provide useful information that could aid ongoing security operations, assuring the public of the Command’s dedication to ensuring peace and stability in the state.
