President Bola Tinubu has said that he has no regret removing subsidies on petroleum products.

The President said this when he fielded questions from a team of seasoned journalists in his first Presidential Media Chat on Monday.

Speaking on the question of if he thinks he could have done better by making contingency plans before removing subsidy on petrol and unifying the exchange rate, Tinubu replied: “Where is the contingency?

“We were spending our future.

“We were spending what our future generation should use.

“We were just deceiving ourselves.

“Smugglers had a field day.

“We have to manage our resources.

“I don’t have any regret whatsoever in removing the subsidy.

“We can’t spend our future generation investment now.

“You still have to meet the bill.

“Cut your cut according to your size.

“You must manage.

“Management is the issue.

“We had no choice.

“Otherwise we are headed for the steep slope.

“It is dangerous not just for us, but our coming generations.”
