Wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has disbursed the sum of N50 million to 250 elderly women in Ebonyi state under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
Each beneficiary received N200, 000, alongside a 25kg bag of rice, during the empowerment programme held at the Banquet Hall of the Old Government House, Abakaliki.
Represented by the wife of the Ebonyi state governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, she said Wednesday that the intervention was part of the federal government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable senior citizens across the country.
She added that a total of 9,500 elderly persons nationwide would benefit from the scheme, with N200, 000 allocated to each beneficiary, amounting to N1.9 billion approved by the governing board of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
She said each of the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is allocated N50 million for the programme.
