Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has filed a petition before the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the State Commissioner of Police and some officers of gross misconduct.
el-Rufai’s petition dated September 8, 2025, was addressed to the PSC chairman.
The petition was titled “Unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations of the Police Act 2020 and regulations by the commissioner and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of the Nigeria Police”.
The former governor urged the PSC to launch an immediate and impartial investigation into what he described as “unlawful and unconstitutional conduct” by the Kaduna State Police Command.
el-Rufai said his action was motivated by a sense of civic responsibility and concern for the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that the PSC’s investigation would help the commission to discharge its duties.
el-Rufai noted: “I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command.
“This will assist the Police Service Commission in discharging its functions under the Constitution and section 6(1)(a) to (e) of the Commission’s enabling Act of 2001.
“I submit this petition with a profound sense of responsibility as a citizen of Nigeria and a public servant who has served our nation at national and subnational levels, including dedicating eight years to improving Kaduna State for all its residents.
“I am motivated by concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which, despite its challenges, remains the primary law enforcement institution in the country.
“It is the duty of all citizens not only to support it but also to ensure the Commission can exercise its regulatory powers to enforce discipline and promote ethical conduct among all police officers.”
The former governor had on Sunday accused the police commissioner of violating constitutional provisions by summoning him and six leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after the command allegedly blocked the party’s scheduled meeting in the state.
The command had summoned el-Rufai alongside six ADC leaders for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public unrest, mischief, and inflicting grievous harm.
el-Rufai and other ADC leaders were summoned by the police via a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Kaduna State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Uzainu Abdullahi.
The police directed the Kaduna ADC chairman to present el-Rufai and six other party members at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on Monday, September 8.
The police stated that the invitation follows complaints lodged against the politicians.
Suspected thugs had earlier disrupted the inauguration of an ADC transition committee in Kaduna, attacking participants and damaging property.
The hoodlums, armed with cutlasses, clubs, and stones, were said to have injured several people and destroyed vehicles.
