Apparently displaying their patriotic instincts, soldiers from 8th Division of the Nigerian Army on Saturday engaged in sanitation exercise and filled potholes in Sokoto and its environs.
The soldiers, who turned out in their large numbers, were seen doing the work of State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) as they cleaned the streets and filled the potholes as part of Nigerian Army Day celebration.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the Garrison Commander of the 8th Division, Brig-Gen. Ralph Nnebeife, noted that the excercise is part of their corporate social responsibilty as the Nigerian Army remained committed to robust military/civilian relationship.

Gen Ralph also stated that the Nigerian Army will continue to maintain cordial relationship with the civilian populace as they are integral part of their efforts towards protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.

Speaking on the cordial relationship between the 8th Div Giginya Barracks and its immediate host communities of Danbua, Danger/Shuni, Kwanawa and others, Ralph assured that the Nigerian Army would do everything humanly possible to ensure that the country continue to be safe and free for all to go about their legitimate businesses without fears.
At the popular Danbua Roundabout on the entrance to Sokoto metropolis, the Garrison Commander monitored the enthusiasm of the soldiers as they filled the potholes in the area.
Though the filing of the potholes caused some gridlock, motorists were happy as they waited in the traffic and praised the soldiers for taking such a bold step.
Speaking to journalists inside the gridlock, a commercial motorist, Salihu Shehu, said the soldiers have displayed uncommon love for Sokoto State by taking it up to fill one out of the many potholes in nearly all the roundabouts in the state metropolis.
