A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned opposition leaders against heating up the polity with inciting remarks and reckless ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye condemned what he described as “unpatriotic and dangerous utterances” from some opposition figures, warning that such comments were already generating needless tension across the country.
Specifically, he faulted a recent statement credited to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, allegedly calling for a violent protest to effect a change in government before the next elections. He described the remark as reckless, saying it could destabilize the country if left unchecked.
“We don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and it would be unwise to destroy it with our utterances and unguided actions due to power hunger,” Oyintiloye said.
The former lawmaker and member of the defunct Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) insisted that while political realignments and coalition-building are common in democracies, using such platforms to stoke unrest or incite citizens against the government is unacceptable.
“Many coalition leaders are simply desperate for power and are willing to pursue it at all costs, irrespective of the consequences on national peace and cohesion,” he stated.
He emphasized that with the elections still nearly two years away, what Nigeria needs now is stability, progress, and a collective effort to consolidate on the gains of democracy.
“What the country needs now are patriotic leaders who can support the present administration in building a better future, creating wealth, and sustaining peace and progress,” Oyintiloye added.
He therefore urged opposition leaders to put national interest above personal ambition and join hands with President Bola Tinubu’s administration to move the country forward.
