Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has frowned at the degree of epileptic power supply to consumers in the state by Kaduna Electric (KAEDCO).
Tambuwal, who spoke at Sokoto Guest Inn during KAEDCO interactive session with consumers in the state, added that the culture of estimated billings should be stopped for prepaid meters without delay.
The Sokoto Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Hon. Aliyu Dandinmahe, urged KAEDCO to always hold consumers in top priority as they are the life wire of the existence of any business venture.
Tambuwal also stated that over 80 per cent of the distribution infrastructures in the state that are now worn out were provided by Sokoto State Government.
He urged KAEDCO to replace obsolete infrastructures and admonished energy consumers in Sokoto to also step up their payment culture.
He said, “KAEDCO should try to supply more quality pre-paid meters, as majority of the customers in Sokoto do not have meters, and majority of them are not comfortable with that hence forced to pay at times even when they never enjoy such power”.
Responding to the governor and complaints by consumers in Sokoto, KAEDCO Chairman, Board of Directors, Abbas Mohammed Jega, lamented that only 30 per cent of consumers in Sokoto are paying their bills promptly.
Jega further appealed to all consumers to take responsibility of protecting transformer, feeders and all other installations that will help KAEDCO serve the customers better.
On his part, KAEDCO Head of Operations, Engr. Aliyu Abbas, stated that no distribution company increases bills on its own as all increments come from the Federal Government.
He also informed customers that KAEDCO would not give bills to customers who do not enjoy power supply for two weeks before the bill date.
