*TCN laments disruption in power evacuationĀ

Power distribution by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) was disrupted in the early hours of Monday with Abuja and others thrown into darkness as workers shut down power facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its neighbouring states.

The affected areas under the AEDC franchise include Abuja, Nasarawa, Kogi, parts of Edo, Niger and Kaduna states.

The AEDC workers have embarked on an indefinite strike Ā over non-payment of their 20-month entitlements.

The company’s offices visited as well as its headquarters in Zone 4, Abuja were under lock and key at press time.

Placards were seen pasted at the entrance of the offices of the company. Ā Some of the inscriptions in the placards read: ā€œPay the remaining batches of 2020 bonusā€, ā€œPension remittances (19 months)ā€, ā€œAEDC management pay us now!ā€.

Meanwhile, the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has stated that due to the ongoing strike by the workers, power evacuation from injection substations across AEDC franchise area has been disrupted.

In a statement by its Spokesperson, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the TCN assured that it has available bulk power for delivery to the distribution load centres of the AEDC to offtake for its customers.

The statement reads in part, ā€œTCN regrets this disruption and assures Nigerians that normal bulk power delivery to AEDC will be restored as soon as the injection substations are opened for onward electricity supply to consumers.ā€
